These two last met in the FA Cup in 2018, when they were in vastly different positions. Huddersfield were on their way to Premier League survival, while Birmingham spent that season fighting the drop. The Terriers won 4-1 after extra time in that clash, while things have changed for both since. Now, Birmingham are six-points behind the hosts.

The hosts have struggled for results this term, but things have picked up for them of late. They are aiming to continue their turnaround this week, while the Blues try to further their bid for survival this term. While they are currently midtable, there are still major concerns about their set up. Can they ease those concerns here?

Terriers Turning

The hosts have had a season of two halves, despite us only approaching December. They had started the campaign with a disappointing losing streak, but they come into this clash with just one defeat across their last eight. The arrival of the Cowleys from Lincoln has brought positivity back to the club.

While Huddersfield remain lodged in the bottom half of the table, they are at least moving in the right direction. Meanwhile, this weekend’s clash could prove to be another positive step forward for the Terriers, who are coming up against one of the division’s poorest travellers.

Form Favours Hosts

These two sides are on very different runs of form coming into this one. Of course, Huddersfield have lost just one of their last eight, which includes a four-game unbeaten record at home. They have seen off Hull and Barnsley in recent clashes here. Meanwhile, Birmingham go into this game with one of the league’s worst away records, losing their last four on the spin away from home.

The Blues have lost seven of their last eight trips across all competitions, failing to score in five of them. With six defeats in eight Championship trips they have had a problem on the road all season. However, their problems go further than that, as, since the start of the 2017-18 season, Birmingham have lost more away Championship matches than any other team (30). That’s led to us backing a Huddersfield victory.

On top of that our correct score prediction is a 1-0 victory. Huddersfield have kept two clean sheets in three at home, while Birmingham have lost 1-0 in two of their last three away. The Blues have failed to score in 50% of their trips, losing to nil in each of these blanks. Given that the visitors have only two open play goals on the road this season, we think that 1-0 is the best way to go here.
