Huddersfield vs Hull Predictions

Hull’s automatic promotion hopes were dealt a bitter blow in midweek when they were hammered 4-0 away to fellow promotion hopefuls Derby. It was especially demoralising coming just 3 days after one of their best performances of the season when they cruised to a 4-0 win at home to Bristol City. That is their only win in their last 8 matches in all competitions though and they are now 7 points behind 2nd place Middlesbrough with 7 games to go and failure to win here may more or less kill off their automatic promotion hopes.

They come up against an inconsistent Huddersfield side. The Terriers have lost 5 of their last 7 matches but they have also won comfortably against Reading and Leeds during that period so they are a little hard to figure out. The victory over Reading did come just a few days before the Royals were in the FA Cup Quarter Finals though and Leeds have been very poor at home all season so perhaps more should be read into the other 5 games when they have been beaten by 5 sides currently in the top 8 and have only scored 1 goal in the process.

Huddersfield’s home record against the top 8 all season has been awful. They’ve played everyone in the top 8 apart from this weekend’s opponents Hull at home and have taken only 1 point from those 7 games. So they seem to be exposed when they play the stronger teams and they have been beaten to nil the last 4 times they have played Hull. For that reason there looks to be a bit of value in backing Hull to win at 23/20 although they are already really relying on other teams slipping up if they are to get back into the automatic promotion picture.
