Hull vs Arsenal Predictions
Hull put in a very good shift at the Emirates as they held the FA Cup holders to a goalless draw. However, things could be very different at the KC Stadium on Tuesday considering the massive shifts that have occurred in Arsenal’s season since then.
They have dropped off the boil in the Premier League, and despite their draw at White Hart Lane on Saturday they are now eight points adrift of leaders Leicester with just nine games left to play. In addition to this, they lost the first leg of their Champions League clash with Barcelona at the Emirates, and now need an extremely unlikely one goal turnaround at the Nou Camp. The Gunners are all but out of both the Premier League title race and the Champions League, which places a lot of emphasis in securing an historic 3rd consecutive FA Cup. This would be the first trio of FA Cup wins since Blackburn Rovers did it in 1886.
Arsenal’s form is admittedly in a troubling patch at the moment. They haven’t won any of their last five matches and have lost three times, although to be fair to them their defeats have included matches against Barcelona and Manchester United. They also performed admirably at White Hart Lane on Saturday as they came from behind to draw 2-2 despite being a man down after Coquelin’s red card.
This comeback showed real determination, grit, and passion, something Arsenal have often been criticised for a lack of, and the belief they showed to get back into that game will have buoyed their confidence enormously. Alexis Sanchez got back on the scoresheet too, giving him a boost in confidence that opposing teams really won’t want to see.
Hull haven’t been on their best run either. They have only won one of their last five matches and fell to defeat at Birmingham City last Thursday. This has seen them slip down the Championship table and they now sit three points adrift of an automatic promotion spot in 3rd. Promotion to the Premier League will be their number one priority.
Arsenal’s impressive performance against Spurs and their new found focus on the FA Cup gives them more of an edge in this one in my opinion. I think they’ll get the win on Tuesday, especially since they have won all four of their matches at the KC Stadium in previous years. Odds of 4/5 for an Arsenal win look very fair too, so I’m backing that along with a 2-0 correct score prediction at 7/1 considering Hull have failed to score in four of their last five outings.
