Inter Milan vs FK Viktoria Plzen Predictions
- Inter just need a win of any kind to ensure qualification through to the last 16.
- Inter have not covered a -3 handicap in any of their last 23 home Champions League games.
- Viktoria Plzen managed just one attempt on target against Inter on Matchday Two, a 2-0 defeat.
- Edin Dzeko has scored nine goals in six games against Plzen in UEFA club competition, also contributing two assists.
Routine win would see Inter through
Inter need a win of any kind at home to Group C minnows Viktoria Plzen to ensure they qualify for the Champions League last-16 and they should get it at the San Siro on Wednesday. Simone Inzaghi’s side, who are unbeaten in five with four wins in that time, are much stronger on paper and have it all to play for while their visitors from the Czech Republic have nothing to gain here after being cruelly exposed at this level in their four previous group games.
However, it might be a bit too simplistic to expect a runaway victory for the Nerazzurri, who have not made a habit of racking up big wins over opponents. Inter have won only three of their 13 matches since a 3-0 home win over Spezia in August by more than two goals and may settle for a routine 2-0 victory here.
That would be a repeat of the score at Doosan Arena when these two sides met in September – a game in which the hosts managed just one solitary attempt on target. Also noteworthy from that first skirmish was the performance of Inter striker Edin Dzeko, who would be the natural choice up front this week on a horses for courses basis.
Dzeko the dangerman for Plzen defence
The Bosnia Herzegovina international scored Inter’s opener to make it nine goals and two assists in six games against Plzen in UEFA club competition.
Plzen could be without striker Jan Kliment who picked up a muscle injury minutes after scoring in their 3-1 league win over Banik Ostrava last weekend, but they do not look like reliable scorers against top class European opposition.
An Inter win to nil must be a strong possibility at around 4/7, but given the Nerazzurri have not covered a -3 handicap in any of their last 23 home Champions League games, there may be more value in taking Plzen +3 at around 8/11 here.
