Inter Milan vs SPAL Predictions

Antonio Conte has already made history with Inter Milan this season, but his side continues to impress. After another big victory in Europe in midweek, they face SPAL on Sunday aiming to add to their great league form. Inter are looking to win 12 of their first 14 matches in a Serie A season for the first time in their history, while they meet a SPAL side who look hapless at the moment.

The hosts do have a fine record against SPAL to maintain. Inter are unbeaten in their last 14 Serie A meetings against SPAL, winning 11 matches and drawing three. They’re also in great form overall, with 11 victories in 13 this season. The Nerazzurri come into this game having won five of their last six in Serie A, while they meet a SPAL side who have the league’s worst away record, losing five of six trips overall.

SPAL are goalless in their last six Serie A away games: only once in their top-flight history have they recorded a longer run (nine in 1963). However, their problems aren’t just on the road. No side have scored fewer goals than SPAL in the top five European Leagues this season (eight): moreover, they are one of the two sides (level with Leganés) to have scored with the fewest different players this term (three).

Overall this season, the visitors have scored with just 4% of their shots. Meanwhile, Inter are in fine defensive shape, winning to nil in 50% of their home matches in Serie A. They’ve conceded less than a goal per game on average at San Siro this term, while the hosts have conceded from only 6% of the shots they’ve faced here. Following that form, we’re going for Inter to win to nil in this clash.

The hosts are impressive at both ends, with their in-form strike partnership grabbing the headlines. Conte’s Inter have scored 2+ goals in each of their last six league matches and could do so in seven straight games for the first time since March 2009. Having won 2-0 in back-to-back home meetings with SPAL, we see Inter grabbing another couple of goals on their way to another 2-0 success.

Inter striker Romelu Lukaku has scored 10 league goals so far, more than three Serie A teams this season, including SPAL (eight). He produced a goal and an incredible assist in their win over Slavia Prague in midweek, while his league form has been incredible in recent weeks. The Belgian has scored seven times in his last six in Serie A, so we’re backing him to grab a goal at home to one of the division’s weakest sides.
