Internacional vs Flamengo Predictions
Thursday’s Copa Libertadores quarter final, second leg action sees Brazilians Internacional and Flamengo doing battle at the Estádio Beira-Rio. The visitors arrive looking to see through the 2-0 lead they picked up in last week’s first leg.
It’s fair to say last week’s fixture between the two didn’t go to plan as far as Internacional are concerned. Colorado were second best throughout said game, spending most of it on the backfoot and eventually running out 2-0 losers, without even so much as having laid a glove on Flamengo.
Most of Internacional’s good work was always likely to have to come on home soil were they to advance, but they don’t arrive in great shape and have left themselves facing a real uphill battle. Indeed, the hosts have won just 1 of their last 4 matches and having scored an average of just 0.5 goals a game over said fixtures, it’s doubtful whether they have they have the firepower needed to turn the tie around.
Meanwhile, Flamengo came into this tie as slight favourites and have put themselves in a commanding position. With one of the strongest and most expensive squads in South America, there is huge expectation on Mengao in this year’s Libertadores but thus far, they’ve passed every test and look well on course to compete for the continental crown.
By no means can Flamengo consider the tie as over, but they arrive in Porto Alegre in excellent shape and will be fully confident in getting the job done. Indeed, the likes of Bruno Henrique, Giorgian De Arrascaeta and Gabriel Barbosa have Jorge Jesus’ team looking an extremely potent outfit and they’ve now won an impressive 4 matches in a row, plunging home an average of 3 goals a game in the process.
Ultimately, in their current form, you have to fancy Flamengo to book their place in the semi final and an Internacional comeback doesn’t look the most likely. The visitors have won 6 of their last 7 games and are playing with a real swagger and confidence that isn’t quite present in Internacional ranks right now.
All things considered, backing Flamengo on the Double Chance line looks the best way to play as far as the betting is concerned and is something we’re more than happy to do. Flamengo completely dominated the first leg and whilst they might play more defensively this time around, their sheer firepower makes them likely to score in every game they play and for that reason, we can see them running out 1-0 winners on Thursday.
