Tip Reasoning

  • Inverness CT have won seven of their last nine games, including each of their last four at home.
  • Partick Thistle have lost seven of their last ten matches, including four of their last five road contests.
  • Inverness CT have beaten leaders Kilmarnock and second-placed Arbroath at home within the last two months.

Highlands hosts should win tussle of the Thistles

Inverness Caledonian Thistle can maintain their promotion momentum with a second-leg home victory over Partick in the Highlands on Friday. Billy Dodds’ team were good enough to win away at Firhill Stadium on Tuesday once they had got the measure of the pitch and how best to play around Partick’s midfield.

There were no great celebrations after the final whistle as the Caley Jags know the tie isn’t over and that it’s only the first step on a long path back to the Premiership. But they have regained the winning habit in the last two months and look a dangerous attacking unit when they are allowed to play their football.

Although they don’t need to win this game, the 6/5 price on the hosts is worth taking as the game should be played to suit them from the off. Partick are a team that like to stretch the game with long balls and develop crossing opportunities, but Dodds’ men were pretty good at dealing with that approach.

Dodds’ men have beaten better opponents at home

What they couldn’t do until later in the game when Partick’s legs tired was create much themselves, but the late comeback they produced may not be needed when these two sides reconvene at Tulloch Caledonian Stadium after a quick turnaround.

Ian McCall’s side will be crestfallen after not making most of their home first leg and arrive on a fairly dismal run of four defeats from their last five road games. The hosts have won seven of their last nine games, including each of their last four at home beaten leaders Kilmarnock and second-placed Arbroath during that spell.

A 2-1 home win resonates in correct score betting as Partick have scored exactly one goal in each of their last five road games, two of which were 2-1 defeats.
