Ipswich vs Brighton Predictions
Ipswich come into this game in 14th place and aren’t looking entirely convincing, particularly in the final third. Their 1-0 defeat at Leeds on Saturday summed up their problems and they come into this match having managed just 4 goals in their last 9 matches in all competitions, having scored 4 times in 45 minutes on the opening day against Barnsley. However, Mick McCarthy knows this league as well as anybody and you can’t see anyone getting an easy game against Ipswich this term. They are yet to lose at home and have already hosted two of the promotion favourites, in Villa and Norwich, so this won’t be an easy game for Brighton by any means.
The Seagulls have blown a bit hot and cold in recent weeks and are struggling for the consistency that was the mark of their success last season. Their last 6 games in all competitions have produced 3 wins and 3 defeats but they have won all of their last 3 in the league to move up to 3rd place, where they finished last term.
Away from home though Brighton are still a little unconvincing. Even last season they had difficulty turning 1 point into 3 on their travels until the final few months. Too many away draws in the first half of the season perhaps cost them automatic promotion in the end! This term they have just one away win and it wasn’t a convincing one, coming thanks to an 88th minute penalty at Burton Albion, who were missing numerous key players on the day.
Ipswich may well approach this in a similar fashion to the Villa and Norwich games, when they fought hard to earn scrappy draws. The Portman Road crowd may not like it, but it is effective against the stronger teams and given Brighton’s away form, backing this to finish in a 1-1 draw at 5/1 looks a decent shout in the correct score market.
