Ipswich vs Charlton Predictions

The Addicks have given themselves a fighting chance of beating the drop though. Their 2-1 home win against Birmingham on Saturday has lifted them to 35 points but they are still 6 points shy of Fulham just outside the drop-zone. They have taken 10 points from their last 5 games but may need to repeat that over the next 5 matches to stay in the hunt for safety. Wins over the Blues and prior to that Middlesbrough and Brentford will certainly have given their confidence a lift but this won’t be an easy match and Charlton have still lost 6 of their 8 away games in 2016.

Ipswich’s play-off push is stuttering and it was another unconvincing display that saw them draw 0-0 at Wolves on Saturday. They’ve only won 1 of their last 5 matches and are now 5 points behind Derby in that all important 6th place. With the Rams up against Hull on Tuesday this is perhaps their best chance to close that gap though and this match falls very simply into the ‘must win’ category as far as Ipswich are concerned.

It’s certainly a tougher match than it would have been a month or so back but the stats still make pretty appalling reading from a Charlton perspective. They’ve let in 70 goals this year, more than any other side in the division and have only kept 1 away clean sheet since August when they started quite brightly. They’ve let in 2 or more goals in 8 of their last 11 on the road and surely backing Ipswich to score over 1.5 goals at 5/6 represents decent value here.
