Italy vs Norway Predictions
A run of three straight draws and some unconvincing performances, including a pair of 1-0 wins against Malta, have had more than a few people wondering about Italy’s Euro 2016 credentials. However, there was no chance that the perennial powerhouses wouldn’t make it into the expanded competition and they’ve ended by locking up a place with one game to spare. A win or draw in their last game, at home, against Norway will seem them lock up the group as well.
Still, the more interesting storyline here is unquestionably the fate of Norway, who bounced back from a disheartening 5-1 defeat to Croatia and draw with Azerbaijan by winning three straight, including games against Croatia and Bulgaria.
In many ways, they play a similar style to the Italians. It’s defence and ball possession first, second and third, while they’ve scored most of their goals from set pieces. They played Italy in their opening group game, losing 2-0, but they’ll undoubtedly be the more motivated team in this one.
Three Reasons for Betting Tips
1. Importance of game for Norway
This is virtually a dead rubber tie for the Italians. We think Norway will be the more motivated team and we think they’ll find a way to get at least a point. However, travelling to Italy and picking up three points against unbeaten Italy is still problematic and it might cost them their automatic qualifying spot.
2. Italy’s style
It’s hard to imagine Italy doing anything more or less than simply playing not to lose here. A draw guarantees them top spot in the group.
3. Scoring is not Norway’s strength
They’re not really a side that sets up in a way that makes scoring lots of goals probable and they simply aren’t wired to play their best football under conditions where they have to win. This game won’t suit them.
