Lazio Double Chance (Win or Draw)

Reason for tip

Lazio have suffered just one loss in their last 15 home matches, with that defeat coming against runaway Serie A leaders Inter Milan, suggesting they should have enough to frustrate Bayern Munich on Wednesday. Thomas Tuchel’s side failed to beat Copenhagen in their penultimate group stage match and Lazio could hold out for at least a draw in Rome.

Lazio 1-0

Reason for tip

Just two of Lazio’s last 11 home matches have gone over 2.5 goals and none of their group stage clashes at Stadio Olimpico saw the ball hit the net more than twice, so expect a tight affair on Wednesday. 1-0 has been the scoreline in six of their last 11 home games and, given Bayern Munich managed just one shot on target against Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday, it could pay to back another narrow win for the hosts to nil.

Lazio vs Bayern Munich Predictions

  • Bayern’s only loss in their last 17 Champions League games came against eventual champions Manchester City last season
  • Lazio are unbeaten in their last four home matches, winning three, and have kept a clean sheet in their last three games at the Stadio Olimpico
  • Bayern Munich are unbeaten in their last 12 matches against Italian sides and have won the last five of those clashes

Lazio likely to limit Bavarians

Bayern boast an excellent Champions League record, winning 13 of their last 17 games in the competition with their only loss in that run coming against eventual champions Manchester City in the quarter-finals last year, and their record against Italian sides is also impressive as they have avoided in their last 12 meetings with Serie A outfits.

However, Lazio have proven they can be difficult to beat at the Stadio Olimpico this season, with their only loss in their last 15 home games coming against runaway Serie A leaders Inter Milan, and could be set to frustrate the six-time Champions League winners.

Maurizio Sarri’s side held Atletico Madrid to a 1-1 draw at the Stadio Olimpico in the group stage before beating both Feyenoord and Celtic to nil in their remaining home games to qualify for the last-16.

Bayern bound to struggle in Rome

Lazio have also kept a clean sheet in their latest three home matches, suggesting they could frustrate a Bayern attack that managed just one shot on target in their damning 3-0 defeat to title rivals Bayer Leverkusen at the weekend.

Thomas Tuchel struggled to get a tune out of his forwards in that tie and could falter in the attacking department once again, facing a side who have recorded a shutout in nine of their last 11 matches at the Stadio Olimpico.

Lazio’s home form is extremely impressive and their defensive record along with the attacking talent in their squad, including Ciro Immobile who has netted eight goals in his last 11 Champions League appearances, suggests they may have enough to prevent Bayern from taking a lead back to Bavaria.
