Lazio vs Sassuolo Predictions

Sassuolo look incredibly unlikely to push for a European place this season. While it’s still early days, it’s tough to see them getting close to their sixth place finish from last term. Lazio are in contention for a place in the Europa League, or possibly more, as they’re just two points off a Champions League spot.

The hosts need to keep winning if they’re to stay in the European hunt. The competition at the top of Serie A is pretty tight this year. Unfortunately, this isn’t likely to be a battle for a European spot. However, it is a clash between two sides who are among the highest scorers in the division.

Lazio have the third highest goal haul in the Italian top flight. Sassuolo have the third worst defensive record in the league, but their goal difference is only -4. Obviously they’re scoring enough to almost keep up. That explains why they keep falling just short of picking up results this term. Will they be able to turn that around when they travel to Rome on Sunday?

Their poor defence is going to be in for a long afternoon, as they face a Lazio side who are clinical in front of their own fans. The hosts have two goals per match at the Stadio Olimpico so far this season. Sassuolo have seen 1.4 goals for them per game away. They have been conceding two goals against them on average this term. Will their opponents add to that this weekend?

Sassuolo can expect to find the next themselves, judging by the record they have against the Biancocelesti. They’ve faced them six times in total, and they’ve found the net at least twice in five of those previous meetings. They clearly enjoy this fixture, so don’t be surprised if they add to their seven away goals over the weekend.

Sassuolo have made a habit of scoring this term, with 80% of their away games seeing both sides finding the net. That’s happened in four straight games on the road for them. Clearly, Lazio will need to score a couple here if they’re to come away with maximum points, and maintain their push for a place in the top three.

Sassuolo have failed to win any of their last four away league games, while they haven’t won in seven on the road in all competitions. You’d expect Lazio to get the better of this one, although you need to factor in that it’ll be a high scoring tie. The home side’s matches this year have averaged 3.1 goals, with the visitors seeing three in theirs. We’re backing them to share out those goals this weekend, as over 2.5 goals and both teams to score is our tip, at 11/10 with bet365.
