Lecce vs Salernitana Predictions
- Salernitana are winless in their last seven Serie A games, suffering five defeats in that run.
- Davide Nicola’s men have seen both teams net in six of their last eight matches, conceding 21 times in those outings.
- Lecce have only lost one of their last seven games, four of which have contained goals at both ends.
- Lecce beat Salernitana 2-1 in September’s return fixture.
Salernitana on the slide
Just two points and two places separate Lecce and Salernitana in the Serie A table at the season’s halfway point, but it will be Davide Nicola’s men who harbour the greater fears of a relegation dogfight after a seven-game winless run. Salernitana kept things respectable in last week’s 2-0 defeat to leaders Napoli, but Friday’s trip to Lecce is likely to represent a stern test for one of the league’s most out-of-form outfits.
Salernitana have lost five of their last seven games, putting them within six points of the bottom three. Nicola’s men have conceded a remarkable 21 goals across their last eight matches – eight of them in a humiliating defeat against Atalanta, while six of those contests have featured goals at both ends. Only nine Serie A teams have outscored Salernitana this season, but their dire defensive record has put them in danger, with their 37 goals against comfortably the division’s highest tally.
Lecce suffered a setback against Verona last time out, falling to their first defeat since October in a game they controlled for long periods. Marco Baroni’s men were previously unbeaten in six outings, seeing both teams net in three and scoring multiple goals in four. Perhaps Lecce’s greatest asset in their bid to stay in Serie A, however, is their home form – I Lupi have only lost to Juventus and Inter at the Stadio Via del mare this term, avoiding defeat in seven of their last eight there.
Lecce to edge entertaining affair
With Salernitana shipping goals left, right and centre but likely to at least carry a threat of their own, backing an improving Lecce side with as many goals in their last six games (eight) as in their previous 10 to win a game in which both teams net appears prudent.
Meanwhile, a 2-1 win for the hosts – who won by the same scoreline in Salerno earlier this season – could represent a solid correct score prediction ahead of Friday’s game.
