Leeds vs Brighton Predictions
- Only Arsenal (31), Manchester City (24) and Manchester United (20) have picked up more Premier League points on the road than Brighton this season
- Leeds have lost four of their last five games in all competitions
- Each of Leeds’s last five matches have featured under 2.5 goals
- Leeds have drawn blanks in four of their last five contests
Gracia and Leeds struggle to capitalise on Southampton success
New Leeds United boss Javi Gracia made an instant impact as manager last month but the club have since slipped to successive defeats and could be vulnerable at home to high-flying Brighton.
Leeds go into the next batch of Premier League matches above the relegation zone only on goal difference, albeit with a game in hand, and are still adjusting to life under former Watford manager Gracia, who replaced Jesse Marsch last month.
Gracia’s first game in charge was a crucial battle at the bottom against Southampton at Elland Road and, thanks to a second-half strike from Junior Firpo, Leeds took the spoils 1-0.
Clock ticking for Leeds in relegation battle
But the club were subsequently knocked out of the FA Cup following a 2-0 loss to Fulham in the fifth round before losing 1-0 to an out-of-form Chelsea team at Stamford Bridge last Saturday.
It has not been a terrible start for Gracia but it has also not been a particularly transformative one and Leeds will need to start making the most of home advantage if they are to pull clear of the danger zone with only 13 league matches remaining this campaign.
That is easier said than done and next up is a Brighton team who have been pretty handy on their travels this season.
In this season’s Premier League, the Seagulls have won away to Manchester United, West Ham, Wolves, Southampton and Everton and, with the exception of the United win, those results show Brighton are good at dispatching the league’s lesser lights.
Brighton making progress under De Zerbi
Although on home soil, they pummelled West Ham 4-0 in their most recent Premier League clash on Saturday thanks to goals from Alexis Mac Allister, Joel Veltman, Kaoru Mitoma and Danny Welbeck, and they are only seven points off the top four with three games in hand.
It was assistant boss Andrea Maldera who took charge of the West Ham win with De Zerbi banned but the club have progressed well under the Italian head coach and fans will be expecting a win from this one as they chase the European places.
They should get it but we predict a tight game and will go for a 2-0 correct score prediction.
It was a close contest when these sides met earlier in the season with Brighton edging it 1-0 at the Amex thanks to the only goal of the game from Pascal Gross.
