Expect some fight from Hibs in Poland

Hibs face a huge task if they are to reach the league phase of the Conference League as they head to Poland on Thursday to face Legia with a one-goal deficit to recover.

The Edinburgh outfit have made a valiant effort to reach the main draw of a European competition as they competed well against Denmark’s Midtjylland in Europa League qualifying, losing that tie in extra time, before overcoming Serbia’s Partizan in their last Conference League qualifier.

A European exit looked inevitable for large periods at Easter Road last week as they trailed 2-0 in the first half, with Legia also seeing a second half effort ruled out. Josh Mulligan’s late strike in Edinburgh has given them a chance and they should be up for this test, even if ultimately they may just fall short.

Both teams to score looks the best starting point for what should be a hard fought game as Hibs have no option other than to take a few risks as they bid to fight their way back into the tie. Legia don’t need to win this game to progress and they are yet to lose at home this season, while they are unbeaten in six at this venue stretching back to the final round of Polish top flight fixtures last term. The Warsaw side can keep that run going and a 1-1 draw has a chance in the correct score market.
