Leicester vs Copenhagen Predictions

It’s clear for all to see where Leicester’s priorities lie this season. They made it into the Champions League thanks to their stunning Premier League triumph last season, and knowing that it could well be their only opportunity, Leicester are really making the most of their stay in Europe.

They won their first ever European match 3-0 at Club Brugge earlier this season and followed it with a surprise 1-0 win over Portuguese giants and Champions League regulars Porto in match-day two. This puts them top of the group as we approach the halfway point, but their Premier League form is suffering badly for it.

The Premier League champions lost 3-0 at Chelsea at the weekend as they left out a host of their key players to focus on this match. Riyad Mahrez, Islam Slimami, and Danny Simpson were all left out, and whilst it did result in a comfortable defeat for them it does mean that some of these main figures are well rested for Tuesday.

These three players are likely to play a huge part in anything good that Leicester do. Mahrez has two Champions League goals to his name and three in all competitions, whilst Slimami has also found the net three times in his debut season for Leicester.

It’s just going to be a case of whether Leicester can separate their Champions League confidence from their domestic lack of it. Their defeat to Chelsea means they are winless in four in domestic football, with them losing three of them and conceding 11 goals. Defensively they have been awful away from home in the league, but in the Champions League they have scored four and conceded none.

Copenhagen were thought to be the underdogs of this group, but they have proven to be formidable opposition as their excellent season continues. They drew in Porto in their opening group match and hammered Club Brugge 4-0 last time out. They sit atop the Danish Superliga after 13 games and are unbeaten this season.

The visitors also have a host of attacking threats to play with. Andreas Cornelius has six Champions League goals to his name, although he did have qualifying to play with as well. His three in the league make it nine goals in total for him, whilst Federico Santander has seven in all competitions as well, with four of them being in Europe.

This will be a tougher test than many imagine for Leicester, but they can take some heart from Copenhagen’s away form. They have only won one of their last eight on the road, and although the other seven were all draws, they haven’t faced many sides as good as Leicester in this time. I think the hosts can get the three points here, so I’m backing a Leicester Win at 5/6 along with a 2-1 correct score prediction at 15/2.
