Leicester vs Porto Predictions

Leicester have had a bit of a rollercoaster start to their Premier League title defence, and the downs have been far worse than the ups. Saturday lunch time saw another one of those downs take place as Manchester United thrashed them 4-1 at Old Trafford to make it two defeats in a row for the champions.

Midweek saw Chelsea knock them out of the League Cup 4-2 after extra time, marking the 3rd time this season that they have shipped four goals in one game. Overall they have lost five, drawn one, and won three of their nine competitive games so far.

One of these three victories did come in their first ever Champions League outing though as they paid a visit to Club Brugge and came away with a very impressive 3-0 win under their belts. This was followed by a 3-0 win against Burnley, and that coupled with their periodically awful defending, is a clear indication that the defensively sound side we saw at the end of last season has gone. This could be down to Claudio Ranieri moving back towards exciting football, but the departure of N’Golo Kante certainly has played a part. His replacement Nampalys Mendy is out injured as well, leaving the defence very exposed.

Porto will be hoping to take advantage of that as well. They beat Boavista 3-1 on Friday to make it five wins, three draws, and one defeat in their opening nine competitive games.

One of their draws was in their Champions League opener as they disappointingly drew 1-1 with underdogs Copenhagen, but the fact that they have managed to score in all but one of their matches this season will give Leicester something to think about.

Leicester have kept three clean sheets so far this season, but coming off the back of conceding eight goals in under a week will have dented their defensive confidence. They have managed though to score in eight of their matches.

This makes odds of 10/11 for Both Teams to Score look like an excellent value bet, so I’m going for that along with a 2-1 win for Leicester at 8/1 for my correct score prediction due to their relatively good form at the King Power Stadium.
