Liechtenstein vs Sweden Predictions
The Swedes endured a nightmare September when they lost to both their main group rivals Russia and Austria, who won 4-1 in Solna to secure qualification. That leaves them needing favours from other sides with Russia 2 points ahead of them with 2 games to play but they can keep up the pressure with a win here.
That shouldn’t be too hard in coming either. Liechtenstein may have made some leaps forward in recent times and look like they will avoid the wooden spoon in this group having taken 4 points off Moldova. However they were crushed 7-0 at home by Russia in their last fixture, while Austria also won 5-0 in Vaduz back in March.
The Scandinavians are busily trying to integrate members of their Euro Under 21 Championships winning squad into the senior fold but their games in September were a harsh wake-up call for anyone who might have thought the transition would be seamless. This will be a much more gentle introduction though and with Liechtenstein shipping goals the Swedes should win comfortably.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic alone could easily outscore Liechtenstein and they look really good value at 11/10 to win by 3 or more goals here and keep up the pressure on Russia who visit Moldova on the same night.
The hosts have only scored 2 goals in the group so far and they were both against Moldova so it is hard to see them really troubling the Swedish defence here and they’ll be pretty low on confidence after that crushing defeat last time out.
Sweden will be keen to get the job done early and are well capable of securing a 3-0 win at 5/1 but are unlikely to go wildly chasing a bigger win with goal difference highly unlikely to play a part and another game to come next week.
