Lille vs Galatasaray Predictions
- Lille have won two and drawn one of their last three home matches
- Galatasaray have lost eight of their last nine trips in European competitions
- Galatasaray have lost four and drawn two of their last six away games against Ligue 1 clubs
Les Dogues can deliver against homesick Turks
Lille have a great chance of securing their first Champions League points of the campaign when Galatasaray make the trip to northern France on Wednesday. Les Dogues were left to lick their wounds after a 3-0 defeat at Arsenal last week, which followed a 3-2 home reverse to Real Betis on Matchday One.
But this looks like an altogether more straightforward assignment against a side that have struggled to get any traction on the road in European competitions. Gala have lost eight of their last nine away games in the Europa League and Champions League and continue to look very fragile outside of Turkey.
They lost their final two away League phase matches to Monaco and Manchester City last season without scoring and almost blew a 5-2 first-leg lead in the knockout phase playoffs when trailing 3-0 to Juventus in Turin after 90 minutes of the return clash.
Discipline will be the key to home win
After some extra-time heroics saw them through, they failed to turn up at Anfield as a 1-0 first-leg lead was quickly wiped out by a rampant Liverpool, who won 4-0. They led 1-0 in Lisbon against Sporting last month only to capitulate in the second half, so there is zero confidence in an away win here.
Lille are not a great side, but have enough European know-how to overcome Okan Buruk’s team. They began the season with a 2-2 home draw against Paris Saint-Germain and remain unbeaten domestically at home.
They dominated the first half at home to Betis, but lost their way after the break before Ethan Mbappe’s red card helped the Spaniards clinch victory. A more disciplined display should see them take the points on Wednesday with a 2-1 home win the preferred correct score play.
