Reason For Lille vs PSG Predictions

PSG have been waiting for this day to come. They have been so dominant domestically this season and deserve their 20 point gap on second placed Lille. They now have the title in sight and could clinch it with a win or a draw here. However, they had the same opportunity do so last week and squandered it at home to Strasbourg. They drew 2-2 with the Alsatians, forcing the Parisians to withhold their celebrations for another week. This was nothing more than a blip in their recent form though as they have been incredible these last few weeks. Prior to the Strasbourg match they had won twelve of their thirteen matches, with the loss to Manchester United being the only blemish on this near perfect run of results.

They have really flexed their muscles at both ends of the pitch as they have a 49 goal difference advantage on the nearest team Lille. They have kept nine clean sheets in their last 14 games, scoring 34 goals in the process. PSG’s away form isn’t as good as their record at home but it is still incredible as they have won ten of their last eleven games, averaging 2.45 goals scored in this run. They conceded just five goals in that time and with the prospect of l’Hexagoal in sight, they should be looking to continue this incredible away record against Lille.

As much as PSG are a fantastic side, Lille are 2nd for a reason and Christophe Galtier’s men will absolutely be looking to spoil the party, even if there is little to no chance of Lille actually winning the league this season. Lille haven’t been at their showstopping best recently though with three wins in their last seven games not exactly the form worthy of a 2nd placed team. It’s evident that the nerves have slightly started to kick in as the end of the season draws closer. You have to remember that Lille finished 17th last year so it truly is incredible that they are where they are.

Some of these nerves were evident in their 1-0 loss to 16th placed Monaco and their last match where they drew away to Reims. Nicolas Pepe has slightly struggled with just two goals in his last eight matches, despite being Ligue 1’s second top scorer. Lille have scored just the solitary goal in four of their last six games which could hinder their chances of finishing 2nd if Lyon get back on track. The prospect of PSG coming to town should be enough to motivate them for this match but they would have hoped to play them in some better form than they currently are in.

Thomas Tuchel’s PSG side are extremely professional and really should have won the title last week, if Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting had remembered how to kick a ball. We doubt they’ll throw away another opportunity for the title and that’s why we’re backing a comfortable victory for Paris here. Lille have been conceding to the likes of Nantes and Monaco recently; and with their home form not incredible, we can see PSG winning this match with ease. Lille are still a top side though and with both teams scoring in the last four clashes between LOSC and PSG, we’re backing a 3-1 victory for the visitors.
