Lincoln City vs Tranmere Predictions

  • Lincoln City have scored 60% of their home goals in the first half.
  • Tranmere have conceded the opening goal in 83% of their matches.
  • Tranmere have lost 67% of their away matches.

Life after the Cowleys

Life under boss Danny Cowley was pretty nice for fans of Lincoln City as he led the Imps to a couple of promotions and even got some silverware for the trophy cabinet. However, with Lincoln now in League One, it seems clear that Cowley thought he had taken them as far as he could and he left on for pastures new. But what of Lincoln now that he has gone?

Well, the Imps have not exactly been the form team and going into this weekend’s clash with Tranmere, they have managed just two wins in their last eight outings and are staring down the barrel of relegation back into the fourth tier. The visitors have a strong defensive record, however, and given that they have earned 62% of their points on home soil, they will be hoping to secure a vital victory this weekend.

Big trouble for Tranmere

Speaking of sides who have not exactly found things easy going since their promotion to League One, there is probably no better example of that than Tranmere Rovers. The visitors have also won just two of their last eight league matches and with such a poultry return it is not surprising to see them towards the bottom of the league table.

While their hosts may maintain a bit of defensive steel, the same cannot be said for the visitors and Tranmere Rovers who go into this match conceding an average of 2.22 goals per game on the road. With the visitors also earning a poultry seven points on their travels, it seems unlikely that they will be able to claim a victory needed to lift their spirits.

What we think

The lack of form demonstrated by both of these sides means that backing either on the win-draw-win market is not the safest way to go. The hosts may be out of form but they are capable of good performances on home soil and given that 62% of their points have come in front of home soil, we think they are set for a solid result this weekend. However, the defensive record of the visitors is hard to ignore and means that we think backing over 1.5 Lincoln team goals is the way to go.

In terms of a correct score tip, we think that the hosts should be able to find the back of the net a couple of times. They average 1.43 goals per game on home soil and given that they recorded a morale boosting 2-0 win in the league last time out, they will be confident of repeating that trick. This, combined with the hosts keeping a clean sheet in 71% of their home matches and Tranmere conceding an average of 2.22 goals per game, suggests that backing a 2-0 home win is the safest bet to make.
