Poland and Both Teams To Score

      Reason for tip

Poland should win this game against a team that sit 109 places below them in the FIFA rankings but Lithuania, who have scored in recent defeats to the Netherlands and Finland, can get on the scoresheet.

      Poland 2-1

      Reason for tip

Poland have already edged to a narrow one-goal victory over Lithuania in this qualifying campaign and with the hosts having only lost by one goal to both the Netherlands and Finland over recent weeks – scoring in both – a 2-1 away success offers the most appeal.

      Lithuania vs Poland Predictions

      • Poland sit second in World Cup qualifying Group G, three points behind leaders the Netherlands.
      • Lithuania are winless in their six qualifiers and can no longer secure a top-two finish.
      • Poland won March’s reverse meeting 1-0 thanks to a late Robert Lewandowski goal.

Poland to keep Dutch in their sights

Poland still have hopes of finishing top of Group G and securing an automatic spot at next summer’s World Cup, but although they should win in Lithuania on Sunday, they may not have things all their own way.

The Poles had to rely on a late Robert Lewandowski goal to win March’s reverse meeting in Warsaw and they have only taken one point from their two away games in the group, albeit those contests came at Finland and pacesetters the Netherlands.

September’s 1-1 draw against the Netherlands does have to be regarded as a positive result, especially as it came in new head coach Jan Urban’s first game in charge and he remains unbeaten in the role.

Lithuania have proven they can contribute

Urban’s unbeaten record should remain intact following this trip to Kaunas, but Poland are without a clean-sheet in their last three competitive internationals and Lithuania have proven they have the attacking tools to hurt most teams.

Edgaras Jankauskas’ side have scored in four of their five qualifiers since losing to Poland in their group opener and that includes netting twice in last month’s 3-2 home defeat to the Netherlands and in Thursday’s 2-1 loss in Finland.

It’s six goals in six matches in this qualifying campaign for Lithuania and they can keep that goal-per-game ratio going by netting on Sunday, albeit they are likely to be on the end of another defeat.
