Liverpool vs Manchester United Betting Tips & Predictions

The north west’s most famous rivalry takes a European stage on Thursday in one of the most hotly anticipated ties of the Europa League.

Liverpool come into this match having come from behind to beat Crystal Palace thanks to an injury time penalty on Sunday, making it six matches unbeaten for them in all competitions (not including their penalty loss in the Capital One Cup Final.)

They have won four of these matches, which has allowed them to move up to 7th in the Premier League table, and they now sit just three points behind Manchester United in 5th.

Manchester United ended a run of four straight victories on Sunday by slumping to a lacklustre defeat at West Brom, although an early red card for Juan Mata changed the entire shape of the game.

Before this defeat Manchester United had been looking very good for the first time this season, with comprehensive victories over Midtjylland and Shrewsbury preceding an excellent victory against Arsenal at Old Trafford.

Manchester United have historically not performed very well away from home in Europe, but I think this match could be a little different. It’s a hotly contested derby and the visitors have had the better of their hosts in recent years. They beat them at Anfield back in January as well, providing them with a bit of a psychological edge ahead of this match.

I don’t think Manchester United will be too concerned with getting a win on Thursday, but I expect them to work hard to avoid defeat. Their recent form against Liverpool makes odds of 5/6 for a Manchester United Win or Draw Double Chance look excellent value to me, and I’m going for a tight 1-1 correct score prediction at 11/2 as well.
