Liverpool vs Sunderland Predictions
- Sunderland’s three league defeats have all come on the road
- The Black Cats have not won any of their last 18 league trips to Anfield
- Eight of Liverpool’s 11 home games in all competitions have gone over 2.5 goals
- Alexander Isak scored 23 Premier League goals last term
Liverpool stop the rot
Liverpool stopped the slide with a 2-0 win away to West Ham at the weekend but they are not out of the woods yet as they face a tough test against one of the surprise packages of the season, Sunderland, tomorrow.
The Reds’ Premier League title defence has been extremely disappointing thus far, with six defeats from 13 games two more losses than they suffered in the entirety of last season.
Arne Slot’s side have lost nine of their last 13 games in all competitions and the Dutch boss took the drastic step of resting Mo Salah for their trip to the Hammers.
Florian Wirtz impressed and Alexander Isak got his first league goal since his record-breaking move from Newcastle but improving their home form has to be a priority for Liverpool, who have already been beaten four times at Anfield this season.
They are taking on a Sunderland side who produced another gusty display to bounce back from 2-0 down against Bournemouth on Saturday to win 3-2 and finished the weekend in sixth.
Black Cats impressing
Regis Le Bris’ men are facing a crucial part of their season, with this game against the Reds followed by crucial clashes against Manchester City and rivals Newcastle.
The Black Cats are unbeaten in seven home games but have been less solid on the road, taking seven points from a possible 18.
However they did beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge so cannot be underestimated by this Liverpool side, particularly one which is struggling to put a run of form together as this current Reds team are.
Slot’s defence has been a particular cause for concern, conceding at least three times in five of their last eight games.
They have struggled with the physicality and set-piece dominance of the league this season and that could cause them issues against a Sunderland side who have excelled on both fronts.
Hosts could edge it
Expect the visitors to get on the scoresheet, although this Liverpool side are fancied to continue their upturn in form by outsourcing the away team.
Sunderland have failed to win any of their last 18 away league trips to Anfield and they may fall just short on their travels once more. Take Liverpool to win a game in which both teams find the net.
Eight of the home side’s 11 games at Anfield in all competitions have gone over 2.5 goals and a repeat of that is fancied, correct score backers should take a 2-1 win for Slot’s men.
Alexander Isak opened his Liverpool league account last time out and put two past Sunderland the last time he played them, he can score again.
