Liverpool vs Tottenham Hotspur Predictions

Liverpool showed their worst at St Mary’s Stadium a couple of weeks ago, somehow letting a 2-0 lead slip against Southampton to lose 3-2 after some lapses in concentration that would make teenagers wince.

This followed on from their Europa League aggregate win over Manchester United, and Jurgen Klopp will have one eye on a return to former club Borussia Dortmund on Thursday as he heads into this game. Liverpool don’t have much strength in depth, so it will be interesting to see whether Klopp opts to rest a few players and focus on a very tough Europa League fixture.

Liverpool’s fight for the top four isn’t completely over though. They may be down in 9th position, but they have games in hand on all the teams above them and are only trailing 4th placed Manchester City by seven points.

Tottenham Hotspur are on an entirely difference mission though. There were no doubts about where Mauricio Pocchettino’s priorities lay as he put out two weakened sides in their Europa League matches against Borussia Dortmund. They duly lost that clash 5-1 on aggregate, but Pocchettino is eyeing the much larger prize of the Premier League trophy.

Spurs come into this match five points adrift of leaders Leicester, but with them not in action until Sunday they will be wanting to put the pressure back on their shoulders with a win on Saturday.

Their form doesn’t look great at the moment, but when you take cup fixtures out of the equation you can see that Spurs have won eight of their last ten Premier League matches and only lost once. They have only failed to score in one of these ten games as well.

Liverpool have found the back of the net in each of their last seven matches in all competitions. Both teams have shown defensive frailties this season, and both teams also possess in form attacking players who will be eager to get on the scoresheet. This makes odds of 3/4 for Both Teams to Score look very valuable, and I’m going for a 2-1 Spurs win at 11/1 as well.
