Lorient vs Bastia Betting Tips

While Lorient did play well against Lyon, goalkeeper Benjamin Lecomte played especially well. He stopped everything that Lyon kicked at him and more, and he earned his side a point in their opening contest. After finishing with just 43 points and just two places above relegation last season, Lorient will know that every point counts and they will want to make the most of any momentum game with another strong performance in their home opener.

Lorient are perennial strugglers in Ligue 1. Their most serious problem is the lack of a real goal-scoring threat, not that they are set up to be an expansive attacking force. Against Lyon, they were geared up almost exclusively to try and stop their opponents, we’ll learn a lot more about this squad in Sunday’s game.

Bastia enjoyed a good start to their campaign when they beat Rennes 2-1. They continue to enjoy an advantage over Rennes, it was their fourth straight league victory over that side.

Floyd Ayite scored a pair of goals and was generally involved in the action last Saturday. The 26-year old looks like an improved player after a journeyman style career. It’ll be interesting to see whether the attacking midfielder can be the spark-plug for Bastia’s attacking. Spark is arguably what was missing last season when the side scored just 37 goals in 38 games.

Lorient are experienced survivors and it’s hard to see this being the year that they get relegated. However, neither should you be taken in too much by an opening weekend draw with Lyon. This is a similar side to the one that nearly got relegated last season and we actually think their opponents, Bastia might be improved.

The odds on a Bastia win are attractive, but anytime Double Chance odds are close to even on a team that finished several places higher last season and appears to have the deeper squad, that’s a good bet. It’s worth noting that Lorient claimed a pair of 2-0 victories over Bastia in Ligue 1 last season. We’re expecting this Bastia side to exact a little revenge this Sunday.
