Back goals with Lorient looking vulnerable

Over 2.5 goals is the bet for Lorient v Strasbourg on Sunday at Stade du Moustoir, with both teams’ recent form suggesting plenty of goalmouth action. Strasbourg’s last three Ligue 1 matches have each produced over 2.5 goals and that should continue in this clash.

Strasbourg are eighth, one place above Lorient in the table, and both teams have won more games than they’ve lost this season. The hosts have ten wins and nine defeats, while the visitors have 12 wins and ten losses.

Lorient were 2-0 winners against Marseille last weekend and have won four of their last six home games, but Strasbourg have only lost once in their last six away matches and beat Nantes 3-2 in their most recent outing.

Strasbourg lost 3-0 to Rennes last weekend in their last Ligue 1 outing, which was a disappointing result for the home side, who had been priced at 8/5 to win. The game kept up their run of games with over 2.5 goals.

Lorient have been struggling at the back, failing to keep a clean sheet in nine of their last 11 Ligue 1 games and in seven of their last nine against Strasbourg.

Both teams will be looking to score here. Lorient have found the net in all 15 of their home games this season, scoring 29 goals – an average of 1.93 per game – while Strasbourg have scored 22 goals from their 14 away games, at a rate of 1.57 goals per game.

Ligue 1 is averaging 2.8 goals a game this season, and there have been three goals or more in four of Strasbourg’s last five away games. Nine of their 14 matches on the road have ended with over 2.5 goals.

Both sides scored in six of the previous eight meetings between these two and, while the last Ligue 1 game between them ended goalless, a 2-1 away win for Strasbourg looks a decent correct-score bet.
