Openda to steer Les Gones to victory

Lyon begin life without the departed Malick Fofana on Friday, but they should still be able to cruise to victory against a struggling Auxerre.

The visitors have lost both Ligue 1 ties this season and conceded eight goals in the process, although their three goals at the other end does open the door for a consolation on Friday.

Lyon have only kept two clean sheets in their six competitive games this term, but four points from two Ligue 1 games suggest they have enough to pile the misery on Auxerre.

Lyon won the corresponding fixture 3-2 last season and should have enough to net a few goals again. They have conceded exactly once in two of their last four matches and Auxerre lost 3-1 last weekend, making that a solid correct score pick.

With Malick Fofana gone, the onus will fall on Juventus loanee Lois Openda to provide Lyon’s goals. He has scored in two of his last three appearances for the club and scored 21 Ligue 1 goals in his last campaign in the French top flight in 2022/23.
