Luton vs Burnley Predictions
- Both teams scored in nine of Luton’s final ten Premier League matches last season
- Both teams found the net in ten of Burnley’s last 11 matches
- The Clarets lost just three matches the last time they were in the Championship two years ago
Goals look likely in Monday clash
Having been relegated from the Premier League last season, nothing but a return to the top flight will be considered a success for Luton and Burnley this time around and two of potentially the best teams in the Championship meet at Kenilworth Road on Monday.
Luton, who went up via the playoffs last time, arguably looked more likely to stay up and the power of their direct game gave plenty of the big boys food for thought in the top flight, while the Clarets are going to have to get used to life under Scott Parker following Vincent Kompany’s departure to Bayern Munich.
It is an intriguing encounter which both sides will feel they can win – Burnley claimed a 2-1 success in Bedfordshire in the opening few weeks of last season before the scale of their task dawned on them – and that should make for an entertaining encounter.
Both teams tended to score in their closing fixtures of last season, but there is extra value to be gained from taking a chance on their being at least three goals, so that is the recommended course of action.
Luton’s aerial threat may prove decisive
It looks a difficult game to call but the Hatters will be hopeful of utilising the compact atmosphere at Kenilworth Road to their advantage.
Parker’s side can anticipate a barrage from corners and free kicks and that perhaps just tilts opinion in the home team’s favour, even though they have seen creative midfielder Ross Barkley leave for Aston Villa.
They still have just enough and while Parker’s tactics at Burnley may not differ that much from Kompany’s previous approach, take the home side to claim a 2-1 opening success on Monday.
