Luton vs Leicester City Predictions
Leicester were able to move into the Premier League’s top three at the weekend, but can they keep their silverware hopes alive in midweek? The Carabao Cup is a huge chance for Leicester to win a trophy, especially given their impressive displays against the top six sides so far. They’ve shown that they can match the best, but first they need to see off Luton.
The hosts aren’t exactly thriving in the second tier, they’ve fallen to fourth from bottom of the pile following their weekend loss to Hull. While the Hatters have racked up two solid wins in the Carabao Cup, their back to back league defeats point to wider issues.
Meanwhile, Leicester are out to make up for some near misses in this competition in recent years. They were beaten in the quarter-finals on penalties by eventual winners Man City in the last two seasons. They edged through the last round against Newcastle on spot-kicks, but we expect a more comfortable win for the Premier League side in this one.
The Foxes have a lot of attacking talent, while we don’t expect Brendan Rodgers to hold back with his side, given their cup ambitions. Their trip to Newcastle saw basically the first-choice side from Leicester, which means that this struggling Luton team could need to mark the likes of Jamie Vardy and and Youri Tielemans.
Given that the Hatters have shipped six goals in two games, Leicester should dominate this game. We expect the Foxes to get forward and create chances. So far this season games at Kenilworth Road have been high scoring, with Luton conceding ten times in five games, four of which have seen both teams score.
Six of Leicester’s last seven matches in this competition have seen both teams score. On top of that, Leicester’s last away clean sheet came on New Year’s Day. While they can boast a great attacking setup, we see them conceding to Luton here. The hosts have hit three goals in each of their Carabao Cup games this term, so they should be good for a home goal this week.
Both teams to score is our main tip here, while we expect Leicester to cruise through. The Foxes have gone unbeaten in their last eight away trips in the Carabao Cup, so they should be able to edge out Championship opposition. We are going with a 3-1 away win as our prediction here.
