Tip Reasoning

  • Luton have won five, drawn two and lost only two of their last nine home league matches.
  • West Brom have lost eight of their last 11 away league contests.
  • West Brom have failed to score in eight of their last nine Championship away games.

Back Hatters to get back on top against away-day duds

The Hatters had a rare off day when they lost 3-0 to Birmingham City last weekend, but Saturday’s visit of wobbling West Brom offers them a great chance to get back on track. Nathan Jones’ men had won six and drawn two of their nine games prior to last Saturday’s St Andrew’s stumble. The result was a big blow to their playoff hopes, but they are still one of the division’s great overachievers.

Top scorer Elijah Adebayo has been feeling his way back into action after a spell out injured and ought to be more threatening the more he plays. Luton are also stronger at the back now – as four clean sheets in their last ten demonstrates.

This clash with the team nestled just above them in the Championship standings is likely to be decided by the first goal as both clubs have superb records as frontrunners. Luton have dropped only two points from winning positions this term while Albion have let just five points slip from their grasp.

Bruce may need to change clunky system

The Baggies have the second-highest average points differential between their home and away games, having taken just one point per game on their travels this term. Steve Bruce has reportedly been contemplating a change in system to stop a sequence of eight away defeats in 11 and no goals scored in the last 450 minutes of football played on the road.

The last two performances have illustrated how WBA’s wide players are not providing the type of service that striker Andy Carroll thrives on, so action needs to be taken there. The match odds look a tricky proposition for this, but we aren’t sure why Luton are considered the underdogs after a very fine recent home run. Taking the Hatters in the drawn no bet market looks a good way in, but there are better odds available about Luton on the 0.0 Asian handicap, which covers the same outcome.

A 1-0 Luton win is preferred as a correct score option because WBA are still yet to prove they can be trusted away from home.
