      Luxembourg vs Netherlands Predictions

Luxembourg managed to pick up a rare point last time out when they held Belarus to a 1-1 draw away from home. This ended a seven match losing streak for the minnows of the group, but their winless run extends to eight games with the draw.

Their last victory came against an out of form Greece side just under a year ago, but they have still lost a massive 17 of their last 21 games in all competitions. At home they have lost each of their last five and only scored in one of them as well, so the signs aren’t promising for them.

Netherlands aren’t exactly the world force they once were at the moment though. They managed to get a 1-1 draw with Belgium in their midweek friendly, but competitively they failed to qualify for Euro 2016 and have only managed four points from their three games in this World Cup qualifying group.

Their one victory came at home to Belarus, with other results seeing them draw at Sweden and lose at home to group favourites France. Overall, they have won four, drawn three, and lost two of their last nine matches.

Strangely enough, their poor form generally manifests itself in home matches. Away from home they are unbeaten in seven games and have won five of them, including victories over Wales, England, and Poland.

Netherlands set up in a 4-3-1-2 formation against Belgium on Wednesday, with Vincent Janssen partnering Jeremain Lens up front and Davy Klaassen operating as a number ten behind them. They are likely to be in a similar, although slightly more attacking formation on Sunday, and if Janssen starts up front again I think he’s the best value anytime goalscorer bet at 5/6.

Despite all their inconsistencies I am expecting Netherlands to get the win here. Belarus, whom Netherlands beat 4-1, are on a slightly better level than Luxembourg and that was at home as well, where they have been struggling. Luxembourg have lost convincingly to the likes of Albania and Nigeria recently as well, so backing a Netherlands -2.0 Asian Handicap Win at 1.925 looks a good value offering. I’m going for a 3-0 correct score prediction at 11/2 as well.
