Macclesfield vs Crewe Predictions

  • Macclesfield are the only League 2 team to concede less than ten goals at home this season.
  • Macclesfield have kept twice as many clean sheets at home as Crewe have on the road.
  • Only four League 2 teams have conceded less shots on target at home than Macclesfield this term.

Moss Rose the saviour

Two points above the drop-zone, Macclesfield remain in an unfavourable position, though as become characteristic of the side from Moss Ross, they continue to put up a fight. Somewhat disappointingly, Daryl McMahon, who had made the Silkmen tough to beat, recently resigned due to the club’s rather poor financial position. Their first game under Mark Kennedy did end in defeat at the weekend, but it was a narrow loss. The new boss will be hoping to carry on the work that McMahon had begun.

If Macclesfield are to put significant distance between themselves at the solitary relegation place, then they’ll need to continue being strong at home. In recent times, Moss Rose has become something of a fortress. Macclesfield have lost none of their last ten at home. They’ve only won three of those, but such form is still pleasing. During that time, the Silkmen have kept three clean sheets and have not conceded more than once, despite playing top-half sides such as Bradford, Newport, Port Vale and Colchester.

Away-day woes for Crewe

Crewe are enjoying a fine campaign, there can be no denying that. They’re currently in the automatic promotion places, while they come into this fixture off the back of a solid win last time out, beating Cheltenham by a goal to nil.

However, for all Crewe are a good side, they’ve not exactly thrived on the road of late, losing each of their last two travelling matches, conceding six goals in the process. Moreover, the Railwaymen have won just one of their last five travelling matches. Last time out away from home, they not only lost to a bottom-half team but conceded three goals in doing so.

Hosts underappreciated

Crewe are the side better positioned in the league, but that doesn’t mean that this will be a walk in the park for them. In fact, it’s likely to be the opposite, so it’s fair to say that the visitors look somewhat short in the early betting. At the prices, ‘Macclesfield +1 Handicap’ makes lots of appeal. Moss Rose has become a place that is extremely tough to visit. Macclesfield are now unbeaten in ten, have conceded more than once in none of those ten and look like a side that can frustrate a visiting team that has started to regularly falter on the road.

‘Correct Score’ punters can try a 1-1 draw. Macclesfield aren’t expected to be overly expansive, but they should offer a threat on the break. They’ve scored exactly once in each of their last four at home, as well as in eight of their last ten. Crewe have scored once in three of their last five and in four of their last six on the road.
