Macclesfield vs Swindon Predictions

Sol Campbell may have to wait quite a while to break into management following the end of his playing days, but if he manages to turn Macclesfield Town’s fortunes around and lead them to safety, his agent will surely be busy with offers from other clubs. This weekend the Silkmen have the opportunity for another three points towards their survival when they welcome an out of form Swindon Town to the Moss Rose Ground.

Macclesfield Town attracted national attention a few weeks before Christmas as they became the first club to give outspoken former England, Tottenham and Arsenal defender Sol Campbell a job as their manager, and the early signs of his tenure are pretty promising. Prior to his appointment the Silkmen were in danger of being cast adrift, but Campbell has helped tighten up a leaky defence and has been rewarded by an upturn in results which has seen his side close the gap between Macclesfield and safety.

Swindon Town’s recent spate of stalemates came to a disappointing end on New Years Day as they were comfortably second best in a 2-0 defeat to Exeter. That result followed on from a promising goalless draw away to Mansfield, a result which was their third draw in a row and means that they have now gone five games without a win in League 2. Considering they ended up just 2 places outside the playoffs last season, their current 14th place standing will be somewhat disappointing.

Given the improvements Macclesfield have made under Campbell’s stewardship so far and the form shown by the visitors of late, we are a little surprised at the odds available for a home win. However, the Silkmen are at the wrong end of the table for a reason so caution should be advised. With this in mind, we think that backing Macclesfield with the ‘Draw – No Bet’ clause is the way to go in this fixture.
