Tip Reasoning

  • Manchester City have scored at least three goals on ten occasions in all competitions this season.
  • Leicester are without a Premier League clean sheet away from home since February.
  • Manchester City have won to nil in each of their last three games, scoring an average of 4.0 goals per game.

Citizens build up steam in the title race

Manchester City have emerged as firm favourites for the Premier League title after taking advantage of their challengers’ slips over the last few weeks, building a three-point lead at the top of the table and looking unstoppable at times.

Their 4-0 thrashing of Newcastle last weekend followed on from an even heftier demolition of Leeds, leaving them with 44 goals scored and just nine conceded in their 18 league games so far.

Pep Guardiola’s side have combined that with a rediscovered defensive stability, helping them to ten wins in their last 11 competitive games. Their only failure during that period came in a dead-rubber Champions League match away to RB Leipzig.

Injury-hit Leicester set for difficult afternoon

This won’t come as good news to Leicester fans, who could see their team missing a host of defensive players, with Caglar Soyuncu the latest casualty after being forced off in midweek. All being told, the Foxes could be without up to 11 players on Boxing Day and that’s not good news when you’re coming up against one of the most lethal attacking outfits in the country.

Leicester did manage a win over Newcastle in their last league game back in mid-December but even without their extensive selection problems they have struggled at the back. They shipped three at Napoli in matchday six of the Europa League and followed that with another three-goal concession at Anfield on Wednesday, and they are yet to keep a clean sheet away from home in the Premier League this season.

Rampant hosts set for big win

Manchester City, by contrast, seem to have avoided the major selection concerns plaguing other clubs across the country. Only Ferran Torres and Kyle Walker are thought to be sidelined for this clash and that suggests an easy win for the Citizens is on the cards.

They have scored three or more goals ten times in all competitions this season and face a Leicester side plagued by defensive injuries, so backing them to hit them for three or more on Sunday looks a good choice.

I’m also backing a repeat of their 4-0 win over Newcastle after keeping three clean sheets on the bounce and averaged four goals per game across this period.
