Manchester City vs West Bromwich Albion Predictions

  • Manchester City have kept six consecutive clean sheets in all competitions.
  • West Brom have scored just four goals in their last nine Premier League matches.
  • All four of these goals came against teams in the bottom half of the league table.

Citizens’ defensive solidity to continue

Manchester City were disappointingly cautious when they visited Old Trafford for the Manchester derby on Saturday, but don’t expect a similarly flat performance from them on Tuesday when they face a West Brom side that look destined for the drop.

While it was a poor attacking showing from the Citizens on Saturday, they once again performed admirably at the back when confronted with admittedly sporadic Manchester United pressure.

This was their sixth consecutive clean sheet in all competitions, and they will be confident of getting a seventh in midweek.

Baggies struggles continue

West Brom once again fell to defeat on Saturday as they lost 2-1 at St James’ Park, leaving them 19th in the table with just six points from their opening 12 games.

Their singular victory this season came against rock-bottom Sheffield United, and five of the six points they have won have come against teams in 16th or below. That 3-3 draw with Chelsea was an anomaly that we’re not expecting to be repeated here.

Comfortable win for hosts predicted

The Baggies have scored just nine goals in their 12 games so far, and five of those came in the opening three fixtures. Since that six goal thriller against Chelsea they have scored four times in nine matches, with all of those goals coming against teams in the bottom half of the table.

Manchester City’s newfound defensive solidity should put them in good stead here, and backing them to win to nil looks a good choice. We’re not expecting a complete mauling though, and with the hosts averaging 1.54 goals per game and West Brom shipping 2.08 per game backing a 2-0 correct score prediction looks good value.

Manchester City injuries and team news

Pep Guardiola could rotate his attacking options after a stale performance on Saturday, with Ferran Torres and Phil Foden options to replace Riyad Mahrez and Raheem Sterling.

Sergio Aguero is unlikely to start though as he recovers his fitness, while Eric Garcia is ruled out through injury.

West Brom injuries and team news

Key player Matheus Pereira is still suspended for the Baggies, while both Conor Townsend and Hal Robson-Kanu are injured.

Sam Field is a doubt but could return here, while Kieran Gibbs and Jake Livermore could come into the starting lineup on Tuesday.
