Manchester United vs Watford Betting Tips & Predictions

Manchester United could find the light at the end of the tunnel yet. After an incredibly disappointing season which has seen manager Louis Van Gaal come under increasing pressure they have managed to win three crucial matches on the bounce to give their season a real boost.

Their win against Shrewsbury kept them in the running for the FA Cup, and they followed this up with a comprehensive 5-1 win over Midtjylland to overturn an away leg deficit and see them progress in the Europa League. Finally, they put in a very impressive performance on Sunday to beat Arsenal 3-2 at Old Trafford, a result which saw them move to within a point of Manchester City and massively dented Arsenal’s Premier League title hopes.

Injuries to key players such as Wayne Rooney and Anthony Martial may well have been a blessing in disguise. Youngster Marcus Rashford was drafted in late against Midtjylland and kicked up a storm by bagging a debut brace. He then started against Arsenal and caused their defence all sorts of problems with his pace and confidence, and bagged another brace to make it four goals in his first two games.

He’s expected to start again on Wednesday as Manchester United’s main two strikers remain sidelined, and if he continues in this vein he will likely cause Watford’s defence all sorts of problems.

The hosts may not have the best reputation this season as an attacking side but they have managed to score at least two goals in four of their last six home matches, and Watford have shown that their defence can crumble under pressure from top teams by conceding a couple of goals against Chelsea, Southampton, Spurs, Manchester City, and Leicester since Christmas.

Manchester United’s confidence will be buoyed after three good performances, and I think this will allow them to break through a decent Watford defence. Odds of 4/5 for Manchester United Over 1.5 Team Goals look good to me. With Chris Smalling expected to return to the Man United back line I think they can keep a clean sheet as well, so a 2-0 correct score prediction is what I’m going for.
