Manchester United vs Wigan Predictions
Manchester United’s unbeaten streak came to an end on Wednesday, despite what Jose Mourinho may think. The Red Devils lost 2-1 at Hull in the League Cup Semi Final second leg to end a run of 17 games without defeat, but despite this they managed to book their trip to Wembley for the final, thanks to their 2-0 home victory.
The last week or so hasn’t seen the best Manchester United performances though. They required a 94th minute Wayne Rooney goal to equalise against Stoke and looked lacklustre at best in their trip to Hull. They are now winless in three games and will be hoping to get back on track and continue pushing for the top four.
Wigan are coming into this match in high spirits after ending a shocking run of form throughout December. They lost six and drew one of their seven games over this period, but three consecutive victories has pulled them out of the Championship relegation zone, even if it is only on goal difference.
The Latics’ record against Manchester United isn’t exactly promising for them though. They have lost a huge 18 of their 19 meetings with them and scored just five goals. At the other end of the pitch they have conceded 58, so the signs aren’t that good for the visitors.
Manchester United have won six of their last seven home games too and are unbeaten at Old Trafford in 16 matches in all competitions. They have only lost there once in the past 12 months and have scored 17 goals in their last seven matches there.
This includes a 4-0 thrashing of Reading in the FA Cup Third Round as well, so it’s obvious that Manchester United aren’t struggling with motivation against the so-called lesser teams in the competition.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic was rested in their last FA Cup clash, with Marcus Rashford being deployed through the middle instead. The Big Swede played against Hull in midweek and will be wanted for their hosting of Hull on Wednesday as well, so another rest day for him is looking likely. Rashford netted twice in that 4-0 battering of Reading, and he has a good record in this competition with three goals in five appearances. Backing him to score at 4/5 looks the best choice for our anytime goalscorer predictions.
Considering their recent home performances, I think another big win could be on the cards for the hosts here. They have won by at least two goals in four of their last seven home games and won by three on two occasions. Wigan may have put in some good performances recently but their overall form this season has been a cause for huge concern. Odds of 1.900 for a Manchester United -2.0 Asian Handicap Win looks good value to me, and I’m going for a 3-0 correct score predictions at 6/1 too.
