Melbourne City vs Sydney FC Predictions
Melbourne City returned to form last weekend with a stunning 5-1 victory over Wellington Phoenix away from home, picking up just their third win in their last 12 games in the Hyundai A-League in the process. Five of these 12 games have ended all square, with the remaining four being defeats.
This has seen them all but relinquish their chances of clinching the Hyundai A-League title. They now sit 3rd in the table, nine points adrift of 2nd placed Melbourne Victory and 17 behind the league leaders.
The majority of Melbourne City’s defeats have come away from home though. At home they have won two, drawn three, and lost just one of their last six games, but it’s still not exactly a stellar performance from a side who started the season with five wins from their opening seven games and lifted the FFA Cup.
Sydney FC are the team at the summit of the table, with their 47 point haul after 20 games leaving them eight points clear of the chasing Melbourne Victory. Things took a turn for the worse last weekend though as they were resigned to their first A-League defeat of the season, losing 1-0 at Western Sydney Wanderers despite their dominance of the game.
This takes their recent form to seven wins, two draws, and one defeat in their last ten games, and away from home their form is arguably better. They have won eight of their 11 trips away in the league this season and lost just once.
There are some high quality attacking options on display in this clash. Sydney FC have their lethal attacking quartet to call upon whilst Melbourne City have former Evertonian Tim Cahill in their ranks. Bruno Fornaroli is the man to watch out for though. The Melbourne City striker has 13 league goals to his name this season and eight of those have come in his nine home matches, so backing him to get on the scoresheet at 11/10 looks the best option for our anytime goalscorer predictions.
With such high performance attackers involved, I think this could be a high scoring game. Melbourne City have seen at least three goals in eight of their ten home matches in the league this season, whilst Sydney FC have in just five of their 11 away days but in four of their last six on the road. This makes odds of 8/11 for Over 2.5 Goals look a good option, and I’m also backing a 2-2 correct score predictions at 11/1.
