Melbourne Victory vs Western Sydney Wanderers Predictions

The Hyundai A-League is well into the business end of the season, and last season’s champions Melbourne Victory are nowhere to be seen at the top of the table. There are just three games remaining of the regular season and Victory find themselves down in 6th position, three points behind Perth Glory above them and three above Sydney FC,who surprisingly are outside the playoff zone.

They just haven’t been able to pick up any momentum this season. Melbourne Victory are coming into this game with a record of just two wins from their last 11 matches in all competitions, with three defeats and six draws making up the remainder of their results.

Western Sydney Wanderers find themselves at the top of the A-League after finishing second from bottom last season, but their one point advantage is slender to say the least. They will need to fend off competition from Melbourne City, Brisbane Roar, and Adelaide United for the remaining three games, as all teams are within a win over leapfrogging them.

Their position at the top of the table is largely thanks to an incredible run earlier in the season and the failures of their competition. Form wise they aren’t looking particularly good, with just two wins from their last seven matches.

Goals generally flow in the A-League fixtures, but this game is not one I am expecting to be a goalfest. Melbourne Victory have only seen three or more goals in one of their last six outings in all competitions, while Western Sydney’s scoring form has also suffered, with three of their last four away days having under three goals scored in them. This makes odds of 11/10 for Under 2.5 Goals very attractive, and I’m going for a 1-1 correct score prediction at 11/2.
