      Metz vs Amiens Predictions

Amiens will be facing this year’s newly promoted side in Metz but the Unicorns know exactly what it’s like to be the new boys after their promotion to the top flight in 2017. Amiens have managed to cement themselves as a lower table club but one that can cause opponents trouble on their day. That exact thing happened in their most recent match as they drew 2-2 with favourites Lyon. It was a bit of a smash-and-grab from Amiens, but considering the opponents they won’t be complaining.

Amiens have only won one match so far against ten-man Lille and this poor form mixed with the difficulty of their opponents so far has given them extremely poor stats. They currently have created the worst xG in the league with just 2.71 after five games being an extremely pitiful effort. Their defence has also been torn apart with an xGA of 7.33 making them the sixth worst team in the league for chances conceded.

Metz should be an equal opponent here though as they haven’t started this campaign with flying colours either. Metz have lost each of their last three matches without scoring a single goal in the process. Angers (3-0), PSG (2-0) and Bordeaux (2-0) have all walked over Metz without much trouble and it’s easy to see how when you realise that les Graoullys have the fifth worst xGA in the league.

Metz have scored four goals so far in the league but three of them came in the same match against Monaco so they really need to improve in this department. Metz’s sole saving grace ahead of this match is their fantastic home form. Last season in Ligue 2 they lost just three of their 19 away games and this quality has been seen in their two matches at the Stade Saint-Symphorien this campaign. They beat Monaco 3-0 and gave PSG a tough match in a 2-0 defeat but can they show that grit against Amiens?

Amiens are winless in their last twelve away games with their most recent outing finishing 2-0 to Toulouse. Amiens have put together the worst xG on the road this season in Ligue 1 and had the second worst last year so we feel this will hold them back against Metz. Metz haven’t scored recently but still have Habib Diallo who is a natural finisher. He was the top goalscorer in Ligue 2 last season with 26 strikes so we’re backing him to be the man to earn all three points for Metz in a 1-0 win. Three of Metz’s last four home games have seen them keep a clean sheet and we’re expecting that to happen here.
