Mexico vs Trinidad And Tobago Predictions
- Mexico have kept three successive clean sheets.
- Mexico have won each of their last three meetings with Trinidad and Tobago.
- Mexico have scored seven goals in their last two games.
Holders Mexico can make winning start
Mexico kick off their Gold Cup defence against Trinidad and Tobago in the early hours of Sunday morning at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
El Tri came through the group stages with a perfect record before going on to win the 2019 edition of the tournament and they should be able to do so again.
El Salvador and Curacao complete the group, and Mexico should have far too much quality for all of their first opponents despite the absence of injured striker Raul Jimenez.
Gerardo Martino’s men have won each of their last three meetings with the Soca Warriors and go into the Gold Cup on the back of two friendly wins.
Mexico men thrashed Nigeria 4-0 in LA after comfortably seeing off Panama 3-0. They were held to a 0-0 draw by Honduras in Atlanta prior to those wins, but three straight clean sheets bodes well for the defending champions going into the competition.
Trinidad and Tobago did manage to navigate their way through the qualifying stages unbeaten with three wins and two draws, before sealing their spot in the main draw with a penalty shoot-out win over French Guiana after a 1-1 draw.
However, the Carribean outfit have struggled against higher ranked opposition and were thumped 7-0 by USA in a friendly earlier this year in their first game since 2019.
Mexico aren’t necessarily prolific scorers but we expect them to claim a comfortable win nonetheless and a 3-0 result is an attractive option in the correct score market.
