Both Teams To Score

Reason for tip

Both teams have scored in each of Middlesbrough’s three home games so far this season, while they are yet to register a clean sheet in eight outings in all competitions. Sunderland on the other hand have seen both teams net in two of their three away matches, while keeping only two clean sheets so far in their eight games

Draw 1-1

Reason for tip

It is hard to separate these two sides, given Middlesbrough have only lost three of their last 16 home games in the Championship, while Sunderland, under the new management of Tony Mowbray, have not picked up back-to-back wins yet this season

Middlesbrough vs Sunderland Predictions

  • Both teams have scored in each of Middlesbrough’s three home league games
  • Sunderland have seen both teams net in four of their seven Championship outings
  • The Black Cats have scored in all of their away league matches

Can Middlesbrough find some form?

Middlesbrough are rightly disappointed with their start to the 2022/23 season, picking up just six points from seven outings and failing to register a single clean sheet in eight games.

Chris Wilder’s side have now seen both teams score in eight of their last nine league matches, but picked up only one victory in the process.

That win came at the Riverside Stadium, where they beat Swansea 2-1 last month, and they have in fact lost only three of their last 16 outings on home soil.

Will Sunderland make it back-to-back wins?

Sunderland will have a familiar face in the dugout as they travel to the Riverside Stadium, with former Middlesbrough boss Tony Mowbray set to take charge of his second game.

The new Black Cats boss beat Rotherham 3-0 in his first match on Wednesday, which was the club’s second clean sheet in eight outings in all competitions.

Sunderland have in fact seen both teams score in four of their seven league fixtures, including two of three on the road, while they have failed to net in only one game, a 1-0 defeat at home to Norwich.

I predict that both teams will score in this game, but it is quite hard to separate the two sides, so 1-1 is my correct score prediction.
