Millwall vs Barnsley Predictions

  • Millwall have won six of their last ten home league games (two draws, two defeats).
  • Millwall have kept six clean sheets in their last eight home games.
  • Barnsley have lost 13 of their last 15 away league games and failed to score in four of their last six.

Millwall must bounce back against Barnsley

Millwall are one of the meanest sides in the division at home, but will need to rediscover their shooting boots if they are to collect three points when Barnsley arrive at the New Den on Saturday. Swansea stopped the Lions in their tracks on Tuesday with a smart away performance on the back of their win at Cardiff to suggest Russell Martin’s men are on the right track.

Barnsley are nowhere near as good as Swansea on the ball, but can be tough to break down and won’t fold like they might have done a few months ago if they fall behind. Poya Asbaghi has instilled some belief and a touch of swagger into the Tykes play that has helped them move off the bottom of the table.

The eight-point gap they must close up to Reading is not insurmountable, but Barnsley need to turn draws into wins and may just lack the necessary quality to get it done. The Tykes have lacked potency on the road, scoring in only two of their last six away trips, and will surely struggle to get behind a Lions defence that has kept six clean sheets in their last eight home games.

Lions still look good for home win

There’s little evidence in Barnsley’s away record this season to suggest they can avoid defeat here. Millwall to bounce back from their midweek loss with a win to nil is a consideration here given how good they have been at putting disappointing displays behind them quickly.

Gary Rowett’s side may be winless in three games, but they were the better side at Luton last weekend and the xG numbers suggest there was little between them and Swansea in terms of chances created. A 1-0 Millwall win is taken in correct score betting because the Lions have only hit multiple goals in six of their last 15 home league games while Barnsley have tightened up on the road recently.
