Lions can boost promotion hopes

Millwall and Charlton meet in an early Championship kick off on Saturday in a south east London derby between two sides with very different goals for the season.

The Lions sit in fifth spot in the standings, four points clear of Watford in seventh and six adrift of Middlesbrough in second. Automatic promotion isn’t out of the question for Alex Neil’s troops and anything less than a play-off place would have to be viewed as a disappointment at this stage.

Charlton are battling it out at the other end of the table in 18th place, just four points clear of the drop zone.

The standout bet here is a Millwall win as they have been in great form at home – winning seven and losing just one of their last 10 games. Charlton are in poor form in general with just one win in seven and they have particularly struggled on their travels, with just three points to show from their last eight trips (D3, L5).

The Addicks may at least be able to get on the scoresheet as it has been six games since they have drawn a blank, while Millwall have conceded in four of their last five home games.

The Lions have been incredibly economical with their scoring as with just 32 goals scored they have the lowest scoring attack in the Championship’s top 15. Taking that into account, a 2-1 win for the hosts seems a reasonable correct score prediction.
