Tip Reasoning
This is the 1st Leg of the Southern Section final and with Wembley awaiting the winner, this competition suddenly becomes an important part of both team’s seasons. Oxford have seen off Swindon, Dagenham & Redbridge and Yeovil to reach this stage, scoring 2 or more goals in all 3 matches. Millwall meanwhile have had to play one extra round and have got the better of Peterborough, Northampton, Plymouth and Southend on their way to this stage having not won a single game in the competition since 2006 prior to this season.
They did spend a fair amount of that time plying their trade in the Championship however and their main aim this season is securing a return to that level. They are currently 3 points outside the play-off places though and have lost 4 of their last 6 in the league but did win at the weekend away at struggling Oldham.
Oxford meanwhile were in FA Cup action and produced the shock of the 3rd round by knocking out Premier League Swansea. Kemar Roofe was the hero with 2 goals and it was a fully deserved success for the League 2 side who played some excellent football in the game to humble the side 3 leagues above them.
They are 3rd in League Two and will travel here full of confidence following that win and will believe they can win it which should lead to an open game with a few goals. Both teams have scored in 5 of the last 7 games involving Oxford and they have lost just 2 of their last 25 games in all competitions so they will have no fear here.
Oxford have only failed to score in 2 of those matches and given you’d assume League One MIllwall will get on the scoresheet at some point with home advantage, backing both teams to score at 8/11 might be the wise move here.
Having humbled Swansea, Oxford seem to have a real taste for the cups and they are in much the better form of the two sides so consider backing the visitors to win this one 2-1.
