Reason For Millwall vs West Bromwich Albion Predictions

  • Millwall have lost just one of their last ten home matches in the Championship.
  • Millwall are the fifth-best Championship team in terms of shots conceded at home this season.

Lions no slouches at The Den

After a bit of a rocky start under the previous regime, Millwall have recovered well, thanks in no small part to the fortress that is The Den. The Lions have improved in most areas under the stewardship of Gary Rowett, though what they’ve done at home has impressed most.

Millwall were feared at The Den under Neil Harris, though given how they started the season, it’s easy to feel that they’ve become even tougher on their own patch under the new boss. Saturday’s hosts have lost just one out of nine at home with Rowett at the helm, winning five of the other eight. They’ve strengthened further in recent weeks, winning each of their last three at home, scoring six and conceding just a single goal in the process.

The fact that The Lions have kept three clean sheets in their last four overall in the league also bodes well ahead of a match against a West Brom side that has started to score less.

Baggies tough travellers

Leaders of one of the toughest divisions to both get out of and survive in, West Brom are a very good side, there can be no denying that. However, the Baggies have weakened somewhat of late, winning just one of their last eight. Fortunately, that win came last time out, so confidence levels should be up.

In general, West Brom have been strong on their travels this term. After all, no Championship team can match them for away points, while they’ve also lost the fewest away games. They’ve also tended to score on the road, failing to score on just one occasion, though recent efforts suggest that they may struggle to be as effective against a tough Millwall side, while they’re currently without a player that is arguably their most creative in Grady Diangana, who is set to be out for the next month or so.

Tight game incoming

Those heading to The Den expecting fireworks on Sunday lunchtime may be disappointed. Millwall’s recent efforts have been sturdy but not overly spectacular, while West Brom are averaging less than a goal per game since the Christmas period. In the betting, ‘Under 2.5 Goals’ gets the nod.

Millwall’s ability to keep teams at bay on their own patch seems to have increased of late. The fact that they rank highly in terms of shots conceded at home fuels the selection, as does the fact that West Brom have tended to be involved in low-scoring games on the road this term, with 67% of their matches involving fewer than three goals.

Those braving the ‘Correct Score’ market can try a narrow win for the hosts, whose defensive efforts have stood out at this venue of late. Not only have Millwall kept a clean sheet in two of their last three at home, but they recently shut out a top team, beating Brentford by a goal to nil. West Brom haven’t failed to score many teams on the road this season, but they’ve started to do so more often in general and, as touched on above, are missing a key player, which isn’t ideal against sturdy hosts. The visitors have also conceded exactly once seven times on the road this term.
