      MK Dons vs Macclesfield Predictions

MK Dons are now out of the FA Cup and the EFL Trophy following defeats against Grimsby Town last weekend and Brighton U21 on Tuesday, and focus now returns to their League Two promotion push. Bottom of the table Macclesfield Town provide the opposition on Saturday and the visitors arrive having been knocked out of the FA Cup by non-league Maidstone United at the weekend, but remain in the EFL Trophy thanks to a 2-1 victory over West Brom U21’s.

MK Dons’ last league game away at Crawley Town saw the visitors produce an impressive 4-0 victory which kept the pressure on table toppers Lincoln City. Crawley Town had 56% of the overall possession and fifteen shots to MK Dons’ ten during the ninety minutes, but the visitors vastly superior finishing saw them pick up all three points.

Striker Healey opened the scoring in the seventh minute and former Everton man Agard made it 2-0 to MK Dons in the eighteenth minute, before Healey struck again in first half stoppage time to end any hopes of a Crawley Town Comeback. The second forty-five produced just one goal, when shortly after the hour mark Aneke netted his seventh league goal of the campaign to help wrap up a 4-0 win for the visitors.

Aneke remains the clubs top scorer in the League Two this season with seven goals, but teammate Agard is just one goal behind him and Healey’s brace has seen him move onto five for the campaign. Macclesfield Town are yet to see one of their strikers reach top form. Instead Arthur, Fitzpatrick, Rose, and Whitaker are the only players to have scored more than once in the league this season and are the clubs joint top scorers in League Two with each on just two goals.

Macclesfield Town will have been disappointed to lose so heavily at home against Bury in their last League Two outing, as each of the hosts four shots on target beat the host’s goalkeeper Taylor. Veteran midfielder Danns scored twice in the opening eighteenth minutes to put Bury 2-0 up at the Moss Rose Ground in Cheshire, but Stephens did manage to pull a goal back for Macclesfield Town on the half hour mark.

The next goal in this game was always going to have a major effect on the end result, and when O’Shea netted a third goal for Bury a minute before the break it destroyed what little confidence the Macclesfield Town players had. Nomadic striker Nicky Maynard scored the only goal of the second half in the sixtieth minute to wrap up an impressive 4-1 win for Bury, but another poor defensive display and lack of killer instinct in the final third were at the heart of yet another Macclesfield Town defeat.

There are twenty-two places and twenty-seven points between Milton Keynes Dons and Macclesfield Town in the League Two table ahead of kick-off, so it’s no surprise to see that the hosts are the big favourites to take all three points this weekend.

We’re confident that MK Dons will win and that over 2.5 goals will be scored in the process, with the final scoreline reading 4-1. MK Dons have won three of their five matches against Macclesfield Town, and three of those encounters have produced over 2.5 goals. The hosts have won three of their last six matches in all competitions, while Macclesfield Town have lost four of their last six. Over 2.5 goals have been scored in four of MK Dons’ and four of Macclesfield Town’s last five matches.
