Gulf in class should lead to goals

Over 2.5 goals looks the best bet when MK Dons host Newport in League Two at stadium:mk on Saturday. Paul Warne’s side were involved in a high-scoring game last weekend, winning 3-2 against Cheltenham, and another open game could be on the cards.

MK Dons are fifth in League Two, 18 places and 33 points above Newport, with 15 wins from their 30 games this season, while the visitors have won just five.

MK Dons are in good form at home, having enjoyed two straight League Two successes and gone ten games unbeaten on their own patch. In contrast, Newport are struggling to find a win, having won just one of their last seven league matches.

MK Dons beat Cheltenham 3-2 last weekend to keep up their recent pattern of games with over 2.5 goals. Curtis Nelson scored the opening goal in the 32nd minute, with Callum Paterson and Marvin Ekpiteta also netting. MK Dons were leading 2-1 at half time, the sixth game in a row that they have been leading at the break. The win makes it eight wins in the 14 matches in which MK Dons have been odds-on this season.

There have been goals galore in Newport’s games this term, with ten of their 15 league away matches ending with three goals or more. Over 2.5 goals has been a winning bet in seven of their last nine League Two away games.

The visitors have been vulnerable defensively recently, with no team shipping more goals in League Two this season than the 56 goals Newport have conceded. They have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last eight away games.

A 3-1 home win for MK Dons is an appealing correct-score bet. Newport’s last five League Two road trips have ended in defeat, and they have been beaten by two or more goals in three of their last four games.
