Moldova must improve

Moldova made a disappointing start to their Euro 2024 qualifying campaign as they were forced to come from behind to draw 1-1 with minnows the Faroe Islands on Friday night.

Serghei Cleșcenco’s side are now without a win in three fixtures, a run that also includes a 5-0 friendly hammering at the hands of Romania in November.

Indeed, their form in European Championship qualifying is desperately poor too, picking up just one victory in their 25 matches since 2011, and even that came against lowly Andorra.

Are Czech Republic finally finding form?

Czech Republic have spent a couple of years in the international wilderness, but they’re showing sparks of a revival, backed up by a 3-1 win over Poland on Friday.

That was their opening Euro 2024 qualifier and means they have won two of their last three matches, with the other victory a 5-0 thumping of the Faroe Islands, who Moldova drew with just three days ago.

Jaroslav Šilhavý’s side will now hope they are returning to the form which took them to the Euro 2020 quarter-finals as they look to extend their 100% win record (from two matches) against Moldova.
